An Introduction to the LED Flashlight
An LED flashlight is, in theory, more reliable and durable than a standard flashlight, since the LED is more robust than an ordinary bulb. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. The bulb does not contain a filament, but instead relies on movement of the electrons inside the bulb to produce light.
The estimated life expectancy of an LED flashlight is between 5000 and 10,000 hours, way outlasting the ordinary filament bulb. An LED bulb is made from a clear, unbreakable resin. The light does not produce heat and uses far less power than the filament bulb, therefore, an LED flashlight should considerably outlast the ordinary flashlight and use less battery power, though some LED flashlights are actually run without batteries. Those that do run on battery power might be rechargeable.
Many types of LED flashlight are available, including helmet lamps, keychain flashlights and hand held flashlights. It is even possible to make your ordinary flashlight into an LED flashlight. Conversion kits are available so you can turn your light into less of a battery eater and prevent bulb burnout.
While the choice of LED flashlight is huge, the best type are possibly the batteryless ones and of course, these are also much more fun! Powered either by shaking, squeezing or a winding mechanism, these flashlights save time and money being charged in seconds by pure manual power. The LED light doesn't require too much power and they can often run for up to 45 minutes, after which time it only takes a matter of seconds to charge again.
LED flashlights are available from many online and real stores. An LED flashlight might initially be priced higher than a standard flashlight, but the efficiency of the LED type less battery replacement, and less chance of bulb failure - makes the extra outlay worthwhile.
